One reel becomes thirty minutes because nothing in the design says stop. The fix is to add a stopping point yourself.
Grüning and colleagues found that a short pause before an app opened led people to close it in about 36% of attempts, and openings fell 57% over six weeks. Friction works because it turns a reflex back into a decision. Caveat: the study had no randomized control group, and one author built the app.
